In this lesson I transferred my primary photographs of textures and surfaces onto the computer and opened them up in Photoshop. Using Photoshop, I edited these surfaces and textures, so they looked different from the original photo. The techniques on Photoshop I mostly used was just changing the brightness and contrast, and on some photos, I edited them by adding hints of colour to them.
Original picture of the concrete
I firstly opened this image in Photoshop and firstly, played around for a few minutes, testing out the different functions. the programme has. I then started of my changing the brightness and contrast, as you can see the edit I much brighter than the original due to me changing the brightness. I changed the bright I order to make it more lighter. I then changed the contrast which made the darker bits more darker, and made them stand out more. I kept the edit as this, once I changed the contrast.
I used the same process that I used on the first edit, which involved me changing the brightness and contrast. For this edit, all I did was as a hint of colour to the photo, this gave the photo and different feel and made it look unique. I gave the photo a hint of yellow, this made the darker bit of the photo more yellow which looked great.
What Went Well - I successfully edited a photo using Photoshop for the first time in graphics, which also had an successful outcome as it look great.
Even Better If - If I used a more complex technique to edit the photo to make it look even better.

Edit
For this, photo, I kept it simple by only changing the brightness and the contrast, I firstly changed the contrast by increasing it, this made the screws and the darker parts of the decking more darker and stand out. After this I changed the brightness and made the photo darker, this gave the photo a gothic look which looked very interesting and unique.
What Went Well - I used a very simple technique to edit this photo, however it looked very effective and gave the photo a whole different feel. It made the photo look gothic and cold.
Even Better If - If I next time add maybe a hint of colour like a red to the edit to make it look unique.

Edit 1
As on the other pictures, I tried to keep this quite simple by just changing the contrast of the photo. I increased the contrast of the photo which did two things. Firstly it made the photo look more HD, it made the photo look of better quality than original as all the details and colours stood out more. Another thing it did was, it made some of the lines in the wooden fence have a slight colour of red in it. This looked great as I didn't even mean to do it, however it made the photo look more interesting and better.
Edit 2
For this edit, all I did was add a little colour to the photo. I looked at my logo which was blue with a yellow outline, so to represent that, I added a hint of blue to the photo, this gave the photo a whole different look and feel, it looked quite cold and frozen due to the colour of the blue.
What Went Well - I again successfully edited a photo on Photoshop, and only edited it by changing the contrast which did two things to the photo, they were that it made the quality of the picture better and gave it a hint of red. I also experimented by adding colour which gave the photo and different perspective.
Even Better If - If I experimented with the brightness of the photo and made it brighter or even darker and examine the outcome.

Edit 1
For this edit I firstly tried to play around with the brightness to see what kind of effect it created however that didn't really work out so I scrapped. I then changed the contrast and that made the yellow-ish colour stand out more and the black bits stand out even more, almost as its resisting the yellow behind it. I only experimented with the contrast on this one as I wanted to keep it simple, however on the next edit, I played around with colours.
Edit 2
In this edit, I added colour to the photo as well as the contrast. I looked at my logo and saw the main colour was blue so from gaining inspiration from that, I decided to add elements of blue to the photo. the outcome of this was good, as it looked very unique and interesting. and also near the edge there was a little elements of yellow which is also part of my logo, this edit was a success just like the rest.
What Went Well - I edited a photo using different techniques including changing the contrast and adding little amounts of colour. The outcomes of these techniques were good as they were all successful.
Even Better If - if I used another technique other than changing the brightness, contrast or the colour.
The next stage after this was to actually make clipping mask of our logos using these textures and surfaces, for example making my logo out of the concrete texture/surface.
Logo 1 - Concrete
To make this logo, I firstly put each shape and letter onto different copies of the same edited texture/surface, meaning I had 4 of the same image with each letter and shape on it. then for each shape and letter, I selected both the image and the letter and right clicked and pressed, "make clipping". this cut out the shape in the shape of my logo but the shaped was filled by the texture/surface of the concrete. Once all the shapes and letters were done, I put the logo together to make it complete. Then I experimented by adding outlines to the logo with the texture/surfaces still there, this made my logo stand out more and made it look very unique and interesting.
What Went Well - the outcome of the clipping mask was great as it looked good and was quite accurate. The outline made it stand out more and made it more eye catchy/appealing.
Even Better If - If I had of used another technique other than an outline, as outlines a basic technique.
Logo 2 - Fence
For logo, I used exactly the same process as the first to make the clipping mask of my logo using the textures and surfaces I had edited on Photoshop. The thing that made this logo different from the other one was the texture and surface used, I also added an outline to the logo, just like the logo before. This made my logo stand out and make it look attractive. This logo was harder to do than the other logo as the texture/surface was a fence and it had crossed planks on it so, I had to make sure the lines flow in the same way and in the same line, as if the lines were off point this would make my logo look weird and unprofessional.
What Went Well - The outcome of the logo was great as it looked professional, the outline looked good and gave my logo more attraction.
Even Better If - If I had of used another technique other than an outline, as outlines a basic technique.
Both Logos together -

I really loved reading your blog. It was very well authored and easy to understand. Unlike other blogs I have read which are really not that good. Thanks alot! clipping mask photoshop
