Web Design Research - Fonts

JD Sports font

I chose to use a round bold font as my words were "BRIGHT" and "CHILDISH" and I wanted to make the font quite bubbly and quite immature so I used a very primary school used font. I used the colours I did because when I looked out the JD Sports website all I saw was a lot of bright eye catching colours which include, blue , green and yellow. These colours were the brightest on the website so I decided to use them. So from looking at JD's website I used a programed called Illustrator and a tool called an eye dropper and extracted the key colours from the website which were blue, green, yellow, black and white. I then added this on a illustrator document and created colour chart.

I chose to arrange the colours in the way I did because the word I chose to create a font for was "BRIGHT". so I wanted something that it very bright and noticeable, so I arranged it in this was because it made the font stand out a lot and made it very eye catchy. The blue I used is quite bright and to make it stand out I added a yellow thick outline which made it bold and even brighter. For the other word "CHILDISH", I used a yellow front with a very thick messy green paint brush for the outline this made it look messy and childish but also made it stand out.

The only techniques I used on both fonts were an outline because it was my first time using the programme and I wanted to do something simple and get used to it, also the outline technique related to my font a lot so that's why I used. I found the technique very interesting and something I wanted to do.

What went well - the font came out nicely is looked great and quite professional. it matched the website a lot and related to it.

Even better if - if I have used a different technique such as gradient instead out a outline again.

Choice font

I chose to use this font because my words were "CALM" and "SIMPLE", I wanted something that is very basic and not hectic. I wanted something that looks neat and mature and not a font where its all over the place. I chose the colours I used because when I looked at the Choice website all I saw was simple calm colours which are not very bright compared to JD's website. the only bright colours I found were blue and red as the rest were different tones of grey and white and black. I again used the programme Illustrator and the tool eye dropper to extract the key colours from Choice's website. Once I did this, I added it to the colour chart and created fonts using these colours.

I chose to arrange the colours in the way I did because I wanted to create a font which looked quite basic, simple and plain. I wanted to make the font blend in and not standout as much as fonts from another website as the colours used were not exactly the brightest. I used a simple font for the word "CALM" and made it blue, then I added a single line outline which was red. For my other word "SIMPLE" I used a basic font in the colour grey and then outlined which a much thicker neat blue line. Both fonts looked good and were simple, they didn't look over the top.

The only technique I used was again just an outline this was because I wanted the word to stand out but also look very basic and simple, so I decided to do something simple and not over the top.

What went well - I successfully created a font which related to the word I used and the website I looked out

Even better if - If I used amore complex technique instead of just a plain outline, maybe using overlapping or gradients.

House Of Fraser font

I chose to use a simple, straight forward font but using a more complex technique on it. My words were "MONOCHROMATIC" and "HARMONIOUS", so I wanted to create simple font which looks complex and different from the other fonts I have created. I chose to use the colours I did  because when I looked at House of Fraser's website, I saw the same colour but in different gradients and a few bright outstanding colours. Again using the Illustrator programme and the eye dropper tool, I used that to extract the main colours from the website. After that I added the colours on a colour chart ready to be used for the font.

I arranged the colours I did because I wanted to create a font which is actually simple but looks quite complex and eye catching. I wanted to create a font which stand out a lot and that looks appealing so for the word "HARMONIOUS", so used a simple italics font which was in pink and gave it a simple black paint brush outline. This was simple to do and also looked very appealing. The black boarder made the font stand out a lot and made it eye catching. For the other word "MONOCHROMATIC", I used a simple dark reddish/pinkish colour for the simple squared font and then copied and pasted that same font and word on top of the original but when I pasted on top, I changed the size by making it smaller and lighter in colour. This gave the font a shadow effect as the shadow is the dark colour and the actual word is a lighter colour.

For the word "HARMONIOUS", I again used a simple font with a paint brush outline but for the other word I used a more complex technique of overlapping the words to create shadows from the letters.

What went well  - Used a more complex techniques than just an outline, that came out very well

Even better if - If I tried using the gradient technique for the other word
